Loch Ness

Urquhart Castle

Once one of the largest castles and now one of the most visited historic buildings in Scotland, Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness is steeped in a rich and bloody history going back to the 6th Century.

Cawdor Castle

Stories of the rich history of this castle abound with Thanes, feuding between Clans and even a donkey and a holly tree! With a drawbridge, portcullis, trap door, dungeon, portraits, tapestries, antiques, nature trails, a walled garden and a golf course this castle has it all. Cawdor Castle can be combined with other destinations in the area including Culloden Battlefield, Inverness or a Distillery Tour.

Inverness

Situated on the banks of the River Ness Inverness dates back to the 6th Century when it is said St Columba was to have visited here from Iona. Historically a busy port and market town today it is both the cultural and administrative capital of the Highlands gaining city status in the year 2000. The city can be combined with other destinations in the area including Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, The Black Isle or a Distillery Tour.

The Black Isle

Neither black nor an island this peninsula north of Inverness is steeped in history going back to Pictish times. The home of the famous 19th century geologist Hugh Miller, The Groam Museum, The Faerie Glen and The Clootie Well are just some of the places to visit on this fertile isthmus. The Black Isle is just minutes from both Inverness and your cruise ship. We can tailor make a tour to this interesting peninsula including Chanonry Point a popular stop off for Dolphin spotting. A Distillery Tour is also available.

Culloden Battlefield

Over fifteen hundred soldiers a thousand of them Jacobites killed in less than an hour on April 16th 1746 in this horrific and bloody battle. This moorland is still very haunting and powerfully moving. Tour this historic sight and let it take you back to the day of the battle. There is also a visitor centre and interactive exhibition. Culloden Battlefield can be combined with other destinations in the area including Cawdor Castle, Inverness or a Distillery Tour. 

Falls of Shin

One of the best places in Scotland to see salmon leaping. The falls and visitor centre are within an hour of Inverness and half an hour from your cruise ship via Millionaires View. Salmon leaping back to their spawning grounds, forest paths and woodland trails to explore in this beautiful part of Sutherland.

Dunrobin Castle

Situated in Sutherland this castle which resembles a French chateau has been home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland since the 1300’s and has also been used as a naval hospital and a boarding school. There are falconry displays in the beautiful gardens that overlook the Moray Firth. This castle is Scotlands largest private residence and a visit here is a must to appreciate the grandeur of this beautiful building.

Millionaires View

This popular viewpoint so called because the view is priceless is situated “over the Struie” which is the old drovers route between the Cromarty and Dornoch firths. From here one can see the Kyles of Sutherland and the Dornoch Firth with the statue of the First Duke of Sutherland on top of Ben Bhraggie.
